1. First off how did you get the name RaTheMc?
Well my first name is Rashea, and I've been called Ra my whole life as a nick name. I wanted people to know exactly what I do when they see my name so I decided to just go by RAtheMC.
2. When it comes to music who has influenced you greatly?
Biggie, Missy, and Lauryn Hill
3. From reading your bio you are greatly inspired by Lauryn Hill.
How do you feel about Lauryn's current headlines? Honestly, I don't pay much attention to them. I've been out to support her recent performances and had an amazing time. I see a fair share of both negative and positive reviews about her return but I think she's great despite the critics.
4. How long did it take to put together your latest body of work Victory lap?
I didn't lock in and record Victory Lap day by day like I've done with most of my previous projects. I just kinda hit the lab and layed 3 or 4 songs at a time, so it took about 3 months to wrap up but during that 3 months, there were only about 5 sessions.
5. What has been the reception like?
Its been great. It recieved a ton of press during the first couple of weeks of the release and people really seems to connect and relate to the music.
6. I know you have done many performances, is there one that was weird/awkward than most?
Definitely. In 2009 I performed at the Pre-Grammy party at this spot called the Spliff in LA, only to slipoff of the stage at the end of my performance lol. I was the opening act so imagine how I felt when introducing myself to the headliners on the bill later that night hahahaha (which was the group U-N-I)
7. The Dmv has been showing that they have a lot of talent in last couple of years. Is there someone besides your self that you feel from the DMV that can be "next".
Yeah I think Tabi Bonney is about to cause a frenzy in the game.
8. Getting away from music a little bit.What was your first reaction to what was going on in Eygpt?
Absolutely stunned. My sister studied abroad in Cairo 2 years ago and I remember all the horrible stories she told me about the way the country functions compared to the states. It just makes you wonder what would you do if that ever were to happen in the US.
9. What is next for RatheMc?
The SXSW music festival in Austin, TX. The release of an AMAZING video I just finished titled "Dreams" and of course MUCH more music and shows.
